Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary

To reflect the vision and values of the National Trust of Queensland in a master plan that honours the heritage and legacy of the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary. This plan will also provide a clear roadmap for the future growth and appeal of the wildlife attraction.

Solution

Pico Play assessed the Sanctuary’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats to understand its current position within the attractions market. Simultaneously we engaged with leading industry experts in the fields of indigenous culture, wildlife conservation and community. We also worked with the Sanctuary to understand cash reserves and projected budget capabilities for new attraction elements to be rolled out over a 10-year master plan.

Results

Phase 1 roll out of the plan has already been completed with the opening of the The Homestead, a new Queenslander inspired state of the art wedding and events, and dining venue, being the feature building within the new Australiana Zone. We also delivered the Outback Springs attraction, a concept design of an animal nursery and farm experience for young families.

A new eco-tourism accommodation will next be added to the Sanctuary along with a west plaza, sanctuary walk, multi-purpose interpretive theatre, indigenous experience, repturnal enclosures, shopping precinct and new arrival and ticketing plaza to be rolled out in the coming years.
